Race week vlogs don’t get much better than this one.

It all started with Bender pulling up curbside at the airport like a personal chauffeur. Kid is just trying to earn …his keep! Huge shoutout to Nick at Fastlife for hauling the bikes all the way out east, couldn’t have made it happen without him.

We set up at a killer Airbnb for the week and got straight into race prep. Dialed in the tire setup with the ProLock 360 system and IRC JX8s, and capped off the weekend with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Trackhouse NASCAR team race shop which was absolutely unreal.

Oh yeah and we went racing too. Battle of the Goats delivered everything you’d expect and then some. Epic conditions this year and we got in on the box in third after a rough first lap.

This is the lightly edited GoPro POV from the Battle of the Goats final race and it was a rollercoaster from start to finish.

Started on the second row and immediately …pushed hard to chase down the lead pack. Things were looking good until Little Romania started working me over. Arm pump set in, the mistakes started stacking up, and I found myself losing ground fast.

Lap two was a different story. Shook off the arm pump, locked in, and put together my strongest push of the season all the way to the checkered flag.

Ended up P3 on the podium. Hard fought, but we’ll take it.

Since I was out in the area, I HAD to take my new WR125 for a rip on 5 Miles of Hell. This trail is honestly so fun and a …nice little beatdown, so I wanted to put the entry level dual sport to the test and give it a go on a trail it clearly wasn’t meant for!

I put some gas in the tank and let a little air out of the rear tire and called it good.

Since I was way out there with no signal or buddy I made sure to bring my Tusk tool bag so I wouldn’t be stranded if I broke down.

This is the raw, slightly edited GoPro POV from my Moab Hard Enduro race run and it was one for the books.

Lap one my hand started going numb. Not exactly …ideal when you’re trying to navigate some of the gnarliest terrain in hard enduro. I had to dig deep, manage it the best I could, and stay focused on the race. As the race went on the lappers started stacking up a little bit. Had to weasel through the traffic and I apologize to the few guys I got a little angry at. Was in the heat of the moment to catch back up to Hart.

Black Flag was an absolute highlight every single lap. Epic to navigate and even better for the spectators.

Ended the day P2 overall on the 4-stroke. We’ll take it and keep the momentum going into North Carolina for Battle of the Goats.

Elk Creek, the trail of a thousand log cuts. The first time I rode this trail was fall of 2023 and I remember thinking to myself …the entire time about how many cuts had been made.

It likely wasn’t even rideable before this maintenance occurred.

Big thanks to the Idaho Forest Service crew and any other volunteers who helped clear this trail. We rode through it again last year and it was all clear for the most part.

This should be the last episode of the bike build where the bike is unfinished! I’m currently waiting on a whole bunch of finicky little parts to finish it off. … Building a bike from the ground up is harder than I thought it would be. It’s amazing how many small parts there are that you forget to order until you need them in order to continue the build!

In this video I showed my @TrailBoundco grab handles. They’re hand made and locally made here in the US. They sell all sorts of accessories including tool packs and parts! They’re also a great place to get Brembo master cylinders if you’re a Brembo fan.

I’ve also got my @dirttricksusa7857 sprockets and solid rear brake disk installed. I only run dirt tricks sprockets because they are the longest lasting on the market and they’re lightweight and durable. The solid rear brake rotor gives you a more progressive braking feel which I really like. It’s also less prone to getting bent.

The Ultimate Hard Enduro Bike Build EPS 11 – Skid plate/hand guards

I’ve been running SXS skid plates and hand guards for many years now …

I’ve been running SXS skid plates and hand guards for many years now and I’m a huge fan. I love the skid plate for how lightweight and slick it …is, while still offering excellent protections for the engine cases, frame, and water pump cover. It also has a double layer of protection bridging over to the linkage which is a MUST. I prefer flag style hand guards over the full wraparound style hand guards for a few reasons.

First reason being that the flags have some give in them. This means I can really push my limits with speed through the trees because tapping trees won’t jar me off the trail. The full wraparound hand guards have no give in that sense so tapping trees is not a good idea.

Secondly, the flag style hand guards don’t make the bars feel stiff like the full wraparounds do. I like a more flexible feel.

Thirdly, the flags are a little bit safer. With the full wraparounds, you run the risk of breaking your arms if they get caught in those guards while going over the bars.

Now REGULAR flag style handguards are often really flimsy and offer no protection at all. That’s why I ran full wraps for the longest time. But these SXS flags are way more robust that the average flag and they actually offer amazing protection while still giving us all the benefits that we like from the flags.

I’ve also gone ahead and installed a kickstarter to this bike. I used the bottom end from a 2023 TE 300 for this build which doesn’t come with a kicker. So I had to order that separately. I’m just glad it still had the option!

I installed a really cool swingarm tab protector by Bullet Proof Designs and a nice S3 chain guide. Those swingarm tab protectors are a must for hard enduro riding. You WILL eventually damage those tabs or even break them off if you’re not running a guard.

As for the stock chain guides, they’re not very reliable, so I went with an S3 one.
