Was fortunate enough for Taylor Robert to take me for a ride out in his local stomping grounds. Such wild terrain out there. Honestly haven’t really ridden anything else like …this. It’s been quite a few years that I’ve been out there riding with anyone so it was nice to have a tour guide out there!
I’m glad I finally got the Gopro angle close to perfect. I have to run the backstrap mount a certain way for maxium viewing without getting my helmet chin bar in the shot constantly. Here’s the amazon link of where I got the mount from that I run on my USWE.

Made some changes to the bike since Hawaii and was quite pleased with the performance in the main event. Just got to work on a few things myself and we’ll get back up there.
Stoked on the weekend overall and super happy with getting 31 through the weekend safely. After two years in a row and two different blown out shoulders, it was rewarding to see him get through this race mentally and be set for the rest of the season. Days 3 and 4 of everyone destroying their bikes again at Grindingstone. Our yearly pre riding ritual is honestly a blast and is good to get the mental confidence to …hit the gnarly lines out there.
I finally swung my leg over the 450 and got a little time on it, but it wasn’t the right fit for me. The gearing was a little too tall for my liking in the techier bits. I really liked it for the direct straight hits, but wasn’t for me at the end of the day. Prefer the ‘flickability’ of the smaller bore and it’s still got plenty of power.
Also played with the mousse setup out there. Was nice to have the communal Rabaconda setup for myself and everyone else since the sandstone destroys tires out there. I’m pretty set on running the drilled mousse setup for the race. I tried the shaved mousse across the outside, but it made the top of the tire a little too flat with a ‘sharper’ edge and I found it to be worse on some of the steep cambers.Show More

This should be the last episode of the bike build where the bike is unfinished! I’m currently waiting on a whole bunch of finicky little parts to finish it off. … Building a bike from the ground up is harder than I thought it would be. It’s amazing how many small parts there are that you forget to order until you need them in order to continue the build!
In this video I showed my @TrailBoundco grab handles. They’re hand made and locally made here in the US. They sell all sorts of accessories including tool packs and parts! They’re also a great place to get Brembo master cylinders if you’re a Brembo fan.
I’ve also got my @dirttricksusa7857 sprockets and solid rear brake disk installed. I only run dirt tricks sprockets because they are the longest lasting on the market and they’re lightweight and durable. The solid rear brake rotor gives you a more progressive braking feel which I really like. It’s also less prone to getting bent.

The Ultimate Hard Enduro Bike Build EPS 11 – Skid plate/hand guards
I’ve been running SXS skid plates and hand guards for many years now …
I’ve been running SXS skid plates and hand guards for many years now and I’m a huge fan. I love the skid plate for how lightweight and slick it …is, while still offering excellent protections for the engine cases, frame, and water pump cover. It also has a double layer of protection bridging over to the linkage which is a MUST. I prefer flag style hand guards over the full wraparound style hand guards for a few reasons.
First reason being that the flags have some give in them. This means I can really push my limits with speed through the trees because tapping trees won’t jar me off the trail. The full wraparound hand guards have no give in that sense so tapping trees is not a good idea.
Secondly, the flag style hand guards don’t make the bars feel stiff like the full wraparounds do. I like a more flexible feel.
Thirdly, the flags are a little bit safer. With the full wraparounds, you run the risk of breaking your arms if they get caught in those guards while going over the bars.
Now REGULAR flag style handguards are often really flimsy and offer no protection at all. That’s why I ran full wraps for the longest time. But these SXS flags are way more robust that the average flag and they actually offer amazing protection while still giving us all the benefits that we like from the flags.
I’ve also gone ahead and installed a kickstarter to this bike. I used the bottom end from a 2023 TE 300 for this build which doesn’t come with a kicker. So I had to order that separately. I’m just glad it still had the option!
I installed a really cool swingarm tab protector by Bullet Proof Designs and a nice S3 chain guide. Those swingarm tab protectors are a must for hard enduro riding. You WILL eventually damage those tabs or even break them off if you’re not running a guard.
As for the stock chain guides, they’re not very reliable, so I went with an S3 one.

Another excellent option for wheels that are more affordable but not as custom, would be to purchase some Tusk wheels from Rocky Mountain. I’ve gotten many sets from them (under $600 for both wheels) and they are actually very durable.I’m going to be running the Michelin Enduro Xtrem rear tire as well as the Michelin Starcross 6 (medium/hard) on the front.
I’ll be pairing these tires with Michelin mousses! I normally modify my rear mousse to be extra soft of hard enduro riding. I have not yet done this because I want to get a feel for how this new Michelin “soft” mousse feels out of the box. I will likely take it out after a few rides and do some modifications.

I am a big fan of the tried and true Brembo brakes so I’ll be running those front and rear on this bike. I’m going to stick with a …Magura clutch system because I find the clutch pull to be softer and smoother than the Brembo ones.
A little trick to getting a softer clutch pull is to run a master cylinder with a smaller piston inside. Brembo and Magura masters with have the piston size stamped on the bottom of them as shown in my video. A good size to run where you would feel a loss of performance but the clutch pull is nice is a 9mm.
It’s very important to set up your back brake pedal high enough. They always come too low from the showroom floor and I find a lot of people tend to adjust them even lower to account for improper body position. Slightly higher than the height of the footpeg is key to be able to reach it efficiently from a proper braking body position!
