Five Erzberg finishes now and I’ve added this last one a 4-stroke Yamaha. This one almost didn’t happen, but it’s somehow been my favorite one yet.
This whole trip came together …last minute, but once it did everything fell into place. Smoother travel than last year, a dialed bike build thanks to my mechanic Fabien ‘Fedex’, and the North American crew showing up ready to race. Everyone made it to the finish except Nico Piazza, but he put up an absolute fight! We had a few good battles along the way together.
The race itself was a rollercoaster. Bad start right out of the gate, locked bars with another rider and had to claw my way back through the pack. Got things rolling, moved up fast, and then the arm pump hit like a wall. I really lost my momentum and was just trying to survive at that point. But I found my second wind, dug in, and I’m genuinely stoked with how I rode from that point to the finish line.

Pennsylvania delivered everything! Chaos, freezing rain, a podium, and a PW80 ripping through town. This one had it all.
It started before we even got to the race. Forgot the truck …keys and lost an entire day unable to get into the race trailer. Not exactly the ideal race week prep. We played catch up all of Friday. Walked the shorter final course and linked up with the other pros to dial in the main race and push the level of difficulty up a notch.
Saturday arrived with freezing rain and a rough prologue. Riley beat me for the first time, which stung a little. Not going to lie. He may or may not be fired, haven’t fully decided yet haha
Sunday was a different story. Shook it off, battled through a few mishaps on course, and put together a strong enough run to land on the podium in third. Insane battle with Ryder Guest all the way to the finish. Hard fought but we’ll take it every time.
To close out the trip, we got a ride day in with Thorn Devlin and finished the whole weekend the right way, ripping around Tamaqua on a PW80. No further explanation needed.

This should be the last episode of the bike build where the bike is unfinished! I’m currently waiting on a whole bunch of finicky little parts to finish it off. … Building a bike from the ground up is harder than I thought it would be. It’s amazing how many small parts there are that you forget to order until you need them in order to continue the build!
In this video I showed my @TrailBoundco grab handles. They’re hand made and locally made here in the US. They sell all sorts of accessories including tool packs and parts! They’re also a great place to get Brembo master cylinders if you’re a Brembo fan.
I’ve also got my @dirttricksusa7857 sprockets and solid rear brake disk installed. I only run dirt tricks sprockets because they are the longest lasting on the market and they’re lightweight and durable. The solid rear brake rotor gives you a more progressive braking feel which I really like. It’s also less prone to getting bent.

The Ultimate Hard Enduro Bike Build EPS 11 – Skid plate/hand guards
I’ve been running SXS skid plates and hand guards for many years now …
I’ve been running SXS skid plates and hand guards for many years now and I’m a huge fan. I love the skid plate for how lightweight and slick it …is, while still offering excellent protections for the engine cases, frame, and water pump cover. It also has a double layer of protection bridging over to the linkage which is a MUST. I prefer flag style hand guards over the full wraparound style hand guards for a few reasons.
First reason being that the flags have some give in them. This means I can really push my limits with speed through the trees because tapping trees won’t jar me off the trail. The full wraparound hand guards have no give in that sense so tapping trees is not a good idea.
Secondly, the flag style hand guards don’t make the bars feel stiff like the full wraparounds do. I like a more flexible feel.
Thirdly, the flags are a little bit safer. With the full wraparounds, you run the risk of breaking your arms if they get caught in those guards while going over the bars.
Now REGULAR flag style handguards are often really flimsy and offer no protection at all. That’s why I ran full wraps for the longest time. But these SXS flags are way more robust that the average flag and they actually offer amazing protection while still giving us all the benefits that we like from the flags.
I’ve also gone ahead and installed a kickstarter to this bike. I used the bottom end from a 2023 TE 300 for this build which doesn’t come with a kicker. So I had to order that separately. I’m just glad it still had the option!
I installed a really cool swingarm tab protector by Bullet Proof Designs and a nice S3 chain guide. Those swingarm tab protectors are a must for hard enduro riding. You WILL eventually damage those tabs or even break them off if you’re not running a guard.
